Commitment to diversity in the legal profession is one of the principles that has guided Charna throughout her career. Having personally lived and conquered gender equality issues, Charna acted on her commitment and successfully launched and operates Charna E. Sherman Law Offices Co., LPA Her firm lives this value because they believe it: “We credit the successes we have achieved over our careers and in our lives to the rigor of pushing and pulling together a wide variety of viewpoints. Simply, diversity yields better results for our clients, and ourselves in every aspect of our lives.” In further demonstration of this commitment, Charna created and funded the Ruby Shoes Fund to support new initiatives to empower women on the ladder of success. The goal is simple: achieve a fairer representation of women in its highest echelons. A focus of this Fund are groundbreaking strategies to help women overcome the unique challenges engendered — ironically — by their very success.
“Ruby shoes” is a reference to the magical slippers worn by Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. Just like Dorothy, we all have it in our power to succeed.
As Bette Midler – the star of one of Charna’s Broadway shows — once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” And as Charna was once counseled by a trailblazer on these issues, “If you are going to go about the business of breaking glass ceilings, wear sharp shoes.”
